| The awareness of using the osmotic effect in water treatment and in power production has been growing over recent years, and four years have passed since the first Osmosis Membrane Summit took place in Amsterdam in 2008. In the 2nd Osmosis Summit in 2010 considerable progress was identified both in the scientific area and in the identification of business opportunities. Since then the number of publications addressing research and development, areas of applications, and business opportunities have increased at a high rate. Today research and development is taking place in many parts of the world, new alliances are being formed, new businesses are emerging, and pilot and demonstration plants are established. In light of this exciting development it has been decided to organize the 3rd Osmosis Summit, scheduled to take place in continuation of the EDS Conference in Barcelona in April 2012.
